I want to start by apologizing as I so wanted to do a shirt card (for the men in your life) however the last couple of days have been rough. I did do this one for you earlier (thank goodness) so if you are/become a follower check back at a later date and as soon as I am able I will have the shirt card up (Father's Day is coming up). I also did some SVGs for you to use for that special man in your life that I will post later also. Now on to the card I did do...

I tend to look for SVGs of images to use for my cards but there is nothing more personal than using a picture of your own for making a card. Below I used one of my own pictures to make a birthday card but think of how touching it would be to send a “miss you” card with the front made from a picture of the children to a far away parent. Or how about making a Father’s Day card from their picture? I am sure you get the idea. So now you want to know how to do it? It is easy.

First you need to select your image/photo and size it to the size of the card you want to make. Remember, if you need to add things in to take room balloons work well with birthdays and the word/thought bubbles work well for text on just about any card. I have also seen just a square with text in it (like a sign) coming from somewhere behind a picture. This works especially well when your image is tall enough but not wide enough to take up the front of your card and you don’t have to worry about it looking like the dog was talking from the middle of his back (or worse yet…its tail!).

Now for my card once I added everything I brought it to Inkscape and shaped the top of the card with the curves and valleys of the tops of my images. You can do the top, one side, top and side….whatever you want.

Once I was satisfied with the shape (I saved it as a SVG) I used the Hinge Method to cut it. (For those of you more visual learners, here you can find a video on how to do this method). I cut it on scrap paper however I taped it down at one side so once I cut it I did not unload the mat instead I positioned it so the cut was fully out of my Cricut on one side. This way I could remove the cut piece from the paper on my mat and slide my photo under the remaining paper and position it so it showed in the opening. Once I did that I taped my photo down good and cut it again. This time it cut the photo into the shape I wanted.

Now to do the card base I brought this SVG into SCAL and again you have to size it to the card dimensions (you may want to make your width slightly larger so the weld does not change your final width of your card) then copy and paste another one which I flipped then lined up with the original and welded the two together and cut.

Now your ready to assemble your card and think of what you want for sentiments inside. 

 

I hope you enjoyed my card and don’t rule out your own pictures to make a personal card with. For some reason many think of using the baby picture for the birth announcements and family pictures for wishing others a Happy Holiday Season but after that, not much else.

Oh…..inside it says, “Well doggone it… have a Happy one!”
