A Thing of Beauty Award

I was given this award by Anniebee of Anniebee's Craft Room. If this sounds familiar to you it is because she was one of the participants in Jillian's Birthday Blog Hop. It was a huge surprise to me. Thank you Anniebee!

For this award I am suppose to tell you 5 things about myself (I assume they mean that most people don't know) and then pass it on to 5 deserving bloggers. So here I go:

1. I have a problem with my heart. Well, my heart is normal and don't leak but beats way to fast and quivers sometimes which is when it usually throws clots that are in my legs. (Thanks goodness not lungs or brain). There are days when things are ok and days where I wonder if it will be my last because I can feel it when my heart is not beating correctly. So this is an ongoing battle and truthfully, very scary.
2. My son knew my husband's daughter before he was my husband and when he was married to his first wife. We were never introduced nor did I even know about any of them. After his first wife passed away I met  my husband on-line and on our first date he told me we would be getting married (I thought he was nuts). Last year, my son married his daughter....so she is my step-daughter and daughter-in-law.
3. I have a sleeping problem and fibromyalgia which I personally think is just a catch all condition they tell you that you have when they don't have a clue what you really have.
4. I have property in North Carolina 3+ acres of farmland and our dream is to sell this house and build there to live. Problem is we need to sell this house first and can't sell it for what the market says it is worth now and still aford to build there. We need the housing market to get back up where it was (or at least close) before the crash.
5. I was in the Army during Desert Storm. (I served state-side) and both my brothers were also in the Army (different times and they went out of country). My son just got out of the Army (also served state-side), my granddaughter is in the Sea Cadets so that means every generation in my family has served in some aspect in the military since as far back as I could trace them (1600s) when they came to the US from England. Something I found interesting is that there were two brothers, one served with the North and one served with the South during the Civil War.

I know, not that interesting but I couldn't really think of 5 things most people didn't know. I didn't think any one knew all that (like any one would want to....LOL). So on to the 5 people I am giving this to...

1. Ivonne of Daily Dose of Beauty.
2. Rexann of IBeCircled.
3. Holley of Holley's Blog.
4. Penny Duncan of Penny Duncan Creations
5. Margret of I Love Crafting.

Congratulations to you five.

Have a Laptop to Use

Great news....I have a laptop to use so I can at least get back on here. Good thing...I was already going through withdrawls. This laptop is a whole different thing and even the way the browser is and my mail, all different than what I am use to so bear with me. Monday we will drop off my computer to see if it can be fixed (hope that don't take long) and if it can't then I will have to save up for a new one. (Might take awhile). I think all the new computers come with Windows 7 so I may as well get use to this as I really don't have much hope for my old one.
BTW....I gave the packages to my DH to mail on the way to work so if you won blog candy at Jillian's Birthday Blog Hop, they were mailed on Saturday.

Fried Computer = No New Posts

We had some thunderstorms move in this evening (of course, I had to go food shopping or we weren't going to eat until I did) and I was home for most of them as my dog hates them and tends to get sick if left alone but it was getting late and for the most part I figured most of them passed already so out I went. I went to Walmarts which is all of about a mile from me. I had to get shampoo, toilet paper, and coffee...so what did that take, maybe 5 minutes to get there and 5 minutes in the store. Before I got to the checkout line we heard a big crash of thunder and the lights went out. They came on quickly but when I came home and went to turn on the computer....ut oh. It won't go on....all it does is light up on the tower as if it were coming on and shuts right off again. It just repeats the cycle over and over ....a quick power light and off again, on again and off again....
The desktop is where all my programs are as far as pictures and the one set up with the printer and scanner and of course my Photo Shop Elements (my laptop don't have the memory or abilibty for me to use all these on it) so to make a long story short....I will be shopping for a new desktop but until then, my posts will be limited. Hopefully I can find a new one within my budget quicklly so keep your fingers crossed for me. Until then.....

PAY IT FORWARD

All countries are welcome to play!!!

Dusti over at Scrappin With Cricut posted this wonderful "Pay It Forward" post on her blog I think it's a WONDERFUL idea and I couldn't wait to participate and pass it on!!  :)

"Pay It Forward" is the idea of blessing someone with a random act of kindness without expecting anything in return. It’s passing on a kindness, hoping that your recipients will do the same, and forming a never-ending chain of goodwill. But it isn’t only kindness, it is also a means to connect and share instead of just keeping it to ourselves.

"I promise to send an original creation to the (1st) 5 people who leave a comment here. They must, in turn, post this on there blog, and send something they make to the 1st 5 people who comment on their status."

Here's what you need to do:
1. Leave a comment on this post. I will send a handmade gift to the first 5 people who comment.
2. Create a post on your blog offering the same.
3. Send a handmade item to your first 5 people who comment.
4. It must be sent to your 5 people sometime in 2011.
Please do not sign up unless you are fully committed to making your 5 items!

**If you are one of the first 5 people to leave a comment on this post, PLEASE email me your mailing address to (susanslomski@yahoo.com)...  PLEASE put "PAY IT FORWARD" in the subject line.  Thanks so much!!  I'm excited to Pay It Forward!! :)

Welcome to the Final Day of Jillian's Birthday Blog Hop and Winner from Day 3

Welcome to Jillian’s Birthday Blog Hop!  You should have arrived here from Yolie.  If you just happened to stumble upon this hop, please be sure to go back to Jillian’s blog so you don't miss any of the wonderful projects we have to share. Today is the last day of the hop so I thought I would do something special.

I thought I would do this card with a little surprise inside.

I apologize for not getting a better picture of the card however we are having a cloudy/rainy day so I couldn’t take the picture outside. (A better camera wouldn’t hurt either…LOL).

In case you can't read it, it says " I picked this flower for you." on the left side. On the right it says "Wishing you a day full of surprises, lots of smiles, the best cake ever..."

Here I am trying to show the dimension of the honey combed paper.

Recipe:
Card Stock from my stash
Inky Antics Pretty Posey Stamps
Inky Antics Honey Combed Pad
Memento Black Ink
Copic Markers
Hero Arts Stamps
Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page-Vintage Floral

I hope you enjoyed the projects for Jillian’s Birthday Blog Hop. I know Jillian will enjoy her birthday. In fact, school is ending soon so how nice is that to have your birthday and then no school?

Speaking of school, I know many of you will be scrapping your school pictures soon so for blog candy today I have these cute school stamps from TPC Studios. For a chance to enter please be a follower and leave me a comment telling me if you have school on your birthday (if it fell on a week day) or does your birthday fall during one of the school vacation times.  Good Luck!

Welcome to Day 3 of Jillian's Birthday Blog Hop and Winner from Day 2

Welcome to Jillian’s Birthday Blog Hop!  You should have arrived here from Yolie.  If you just happened to stumble upon this hop, please be sure to go back to Jillian’s blog so you don't miss any of the wonderful projects we have to share. Each day I will be posting a new project with new blog candy for you to win so be sure to come back each day.

For today’s project I made Jillian an ice cream cone. Now everybody likes ice cream (well, almost everyone) but I think everyone will like this one….no calories!

The one thing I will say about this is that I could not find the embossing folder for the cone part. There is one (I forget the name off hand) that has squares/diamond shapes on it and it is perfect for making an ice cream cone. I went to 3 stores (hours away) and still didn’t find it so the best I could do is to come up with this brown textured looking paper.

Just a little note….I put lots of ice cream on that cone however you can start it lower and arrange it so when you flip it over, the ice cream does not show above the white paper if that bothers you.

Recipe:
Card Stock from my stash
Brown printed paper from my stash
Sizzix Petal Cone Die
Stamp from Hero Art
Memento Rich Cocoa Ink
Tear Drop Punch (not sure who made it)

I hope you enjoyed the ice cream cone. I thought it was a nice project as it doesn’t matter if you are a girl or a boy it would be fitting. Speaking of boys….it is hard at times to find things for boys so today’s candy is this clear stamp set by Cloud 9 Design, Simple Thoughts-Boys.

For a chance to win just be a follower and leave me a comment telling me if you would rather have a baked cake or an ice cream cake for your next birthday.. If you do not leave me a way to contact you, you have 3 days to claim your prize. For an extra chance Jillian is trying to get 300 fans on Facebook. If you aren’t a fan, please like her at http://www.facebook.com/ajillianvancedesign then come back and leave me another comment saying you are a fan. Good luck!

The Winner from Yesterday is....

Winner from Yesterday's Drawing!!!!

The first drawing was a combination of the two names from the Spring Card (reached 100 followers) and the three people who answered the question from the blog hop. Yep, that is it....three people for a total of 5 people in the drawing for the blog candy. Although I do appreciate all comments the directions were to tell me what was the best thing you ever received for your birthday.

And the winner is...

Congratulations Reyne!!!
Reyne: The box is adorable! I received a cell phone a few years ago as a Birthday gift. It was by far the best that I recall.

Reyne, you have 3 days to come back and claim your prize since you left no way for me to contact you.

Welcome to Day 1 of Jillian's Birthday Blog Hop

Welcome to Jillian’s Birthday Blog Hop!  You should have arrived here from Yolie.  If you just happened to stumble upon this hop, please be sure to go back to Jillian's blog so you don't miss any of the wonderful projects we have to share. Each day I will be posting a new project with new blog candy for you to win so be sure to come back each day.

For my first project I made a birthday box. Something small could go in it or maybe if you were having a party one could go on the table for each of your guests filled with candies. I topped this one with a flower however a bow would have been just as nice. They say good things come in small packages and so this little one should delight anyone who receives it.

I did the two opposite sides with the same colors and decoration.

I thought the flower would go nice on it.
Here is a look at the how the top closes without the flower.

Recipe:
White cardstock
Copic Markers
Stickers
Stickels
Sizzix Pedal Cone Die
Stamps from Hero Arts
Flower from Recollections

I hope you enjoyed seeing the little box. As I said, good things do come in small packages and so this little box brings us to something good...your first chance to win some candy.  You must be a follower and leave me a comment telling me what was the best thing you ever received for your birthday. (If you do not leave me a way to get in touch with you, you have 3 days to claim your prize). For an extra chance Jillian is trying to get 300 fans on Facebook. If you aren’t a fan, please like her at http://www.facebook.com/ajillianvancedesign then come back and leave me another comment saying you are a fan.

Since my project was dealing with texture to both the sight and touch (stickels, flower, etc) I have some fun textures for you to add to your project with these Martha Stewart Stamps.

Now off you go to check out some more fantastic projects...your next stop is Deanne

In case you get lost along the way here is the line up.

New Card and Some Great News!

Spring is here....and here is the card to prove it!

This card was made with paper I had in my stash, Martha Stewart Double Arch Punch, and the flower I made from an unlikely source. (Want to know from what and how...just leave a post asking me.) The hummingbird is a sticker and the other embellishments I won in my yahoo group as a bingo prize.

Yes, I finally won bingo! Oh, that is great news...at least for me but I have some great news for you. I reached 100 followers!!!!! Why is that great news for you? Blog Candy!!! Just leave me a comment, be one of my followers and you will be entered in the drawing. Don't forget to come on back for Jillian's Birthday Blog Hop which starts tomorrow, the 10th until the 13th. Come back each day to see a new project and another chance to win some more blog candy. (Yes, there will be several winners).

New Layout for FileKutz Challenge

I did this layout for the FileKutz Challenge. If you haven't seen it yet, it is worth the minute or two to check out. Although once you're there it will be more like an hour or two...LOL. I really am not sure how I feel about this entry as what I envisioned and the results are two different things. I really wanted to do a supper special page for this special photo.

The Bugs Are Coming But No Need To Reach For The Bug Spray

Have you checked out Penny Duncan's blog lately? If not you don't know what you are missing. She has a great tutorial and the files to go with it (free) on how to make some amazing Dragonflies and Butterflies.
I tried my hand at making the Dragonflies. I am pleased with the way they came out except I really need to get some very tiny jewels or diamonds for the eyes. Although I had small ones as you can see from the pictures (below) that they are not really small enough but they will do for now. My next batch will have tiny eyes. Tomorrow I will try my hand at the butterflies.
