Fiskafriends - The Power of Community Blog Hop - Day 3

This hop is open to everyone! International visitors are included for a chance of winning the Grand Prize!

Welcome! If you came from Jean Bullock's blog then you are in the right place.
If not, please go to the beginning at the Fiskafriends Blog.

March 27th-29th, we are celebrating our First Anniversary with a Fiskafriend Blog Hop. You do not have to be a Fiskafriend to visit and comment on our bloggers' posts. In addition to the Grand Prize, some of the blogs are offering prizes too but be sure to read each blog's rules and requirements as some may not provide international mailing.

It is the final day of the hop and I sure thought it was a fun hop. I loved all the projects the other bloggers did, they did such a great job. It wouldn't be a hop without hoppers so 'Thank You' all for being part of the hop....and a special "Thank you" to Jean Bullock for your hard work to put this hop together.

Day 3

I am not sure how many of you scrolled down to check some of the other posts on my blog but a month ago I offered a prize for anyone who guessed how long I had to get my blanket done before my grandson was born. Turns out no one guessed "1 day" but only 3 people answered by the time he was born so I told them all they will celebrate with me and I will sent them a prize. All three of them happen to be Fiskateers. (I bet they think I forgot). I wanted something special and personal so this is what I came up with.

(I know the lighting is off but the ribbon does have a greenish color....have to have green & orange.)

Nancy, Jean, and Tona, these are for you!

These dish towels took me forever to make! I saw the tutorial and downloaded the pattern from  Kleiosbelly. I figured it only took her a little while to make one in no time flat so I figured I can make three in a couple of hours, right? Wrong! Whatever could go wrong, went wrong...

1. To embroider on towels, you can't hoop them (or risk breaking your hoop) so you need to hoop the stabilizer and glue the towel to the stabilizer.....off to the store for some quilting glue.
2. If you embroider on something like terrycloth you need to put a water soluble stabilizer on the front of it so the stitches don't sink in.......back to the store for water soluble stabilizer.
3. When embroidering and using orange, make sure you have the correct orange thread to match....back to the store.
4. When choosing a button for your project when you are a beginner, pick a button that fits in the button foot.....tore the house apart looking for suitable buttons that fit.

Oh yeah, these are not perfect by no means but those imperfections just make them unique. (At least that is what I tell myself.) But alas our hop is done and so are my towels so off they go into the mail.

Speaking of things to mail...

What's a blog hop without a blog prize? I have a Your Story Photo that I will be giving away. (US Only but those international skip to "*"). You may be wondering what is it. The best way to explain it is just have you watch this on YouTube. (I don't know her but she shows what it is and how to use it the best.)

*Just leave one comment on this post including International Visitors so you go into the drawing for the Grand Prize which is open Internationally. Those of you in the US, your comment will enter you in my giveaway drawing automatically. (You do not have to follow my blog but I would love it if you did.)

How it works:

I will be closing comments for my give-a-way tomorrow at 9:00PM EST and use 'Randy' (Random Generator) to pull one name from today's comments. I will add that to the other two names I have from the prior two days and again Randy will pick one of you as the Final Winner. I will announce the winner by midnight tomorrow. Remember, you will have three days to claim your prize once the hop ends. I will try and contact you if I can otherwise please check back by Thursday to see if you are the winner. (If left unclaimed, on Friday I will pick a new winner.) Good Luck to all!

*I am not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen prizes. I mail at the PO and will have proof of mailing it to you. However, whatever happens from that point is beyond my control.

Remember, if you would like to be eligible for the sponsor giveaway (Grand Prize) start at the Fiskafriends blog, follow the instructions there but be sure to leave one comment on this post. At the end of the hop I will use "Randy" to choose a name (international hoppers are included too) and turn it in. For details on how they pick the winners from the names all the blogs turn in, please see the Fiskafriends Blog for their details.

Everyone (International visitors also), did you comment on the first and second day's post (Day 1 & 2)? If you did, do not comment again. If you didn't, although the comments are closed for my individual prize for that day, scroll down and leave one comment so you will be entered in for the Grand Prize.

Thanks for hopping by but now it is time for you to hop on over to another wonderful Fiskafriend, Cindy deRosier, #4113.

Fiskafriends - The Power of Community Blog Hop - Day 2

Day 2

Continuing on with Birthday Cards which I never seem to have enough of, I wanted to share the one I made on Tuesday.

(I used Stampin' Up products.)

Note:
1. Even a couple of the same item (balloons) can be used together.
2. One word repeatedly stamped works for a different effect.
3. If you repeat that word elsewhere, stamp off first (when you ink your stamp, stamp it on scrap     paper first then use it to stamp on your card) so it is lighter, it won't take away from the card and will fill that 'white' area giving it a more 'finished' look.
4. Instead of cutting your card to size, cut it 1/4" narrow so your embellishments can hang over the sides and your card will still fit in the standard envelope.

What's a blog hop without a blog prize? I have a Your Story Photo that I will be giving away. (US Only but those international skip to "*"). You may be wondering what is it. The best way to explain it is just have you watch this on YouTube. (I don't know her but she shows what it is and how to use it the best.)

Hint: When you run out of covers, you can make your own. To see how watch this YouTube Video.
(I do not know her, nor promoting her. I just found she explains it best as I don't make videos).

*Just leave one comment on this post including International Visitors so you go into the drawing for the Grand Prize which is open Internationally. Those of you in the US, your comment will enter you in my giveaway drawing automatically. (You do not have to follow my blog but I would love it if you did.)

Remember to come back tomorrow for Day 3 and your final chance to be entered.

How it works:

I will be closing comments for my give-a-way each day at 9:00PM EST (with the arrival of the new post) and use 'Randy' (Random Generator) to pull one name from today's comments. You still can leave comments after 9, you just won't be included in that day's pick for my drawing. (However, you will  still be entered for the Grand Prize drawing.)  I will be doing the same for the tomorrow's post also. At the end of the hop, these semi-finalist names will then be put in (so there will be three of you, one from each day) and again Randy will pick one of you as the Final Winner. Remember, you will have three days to claim your prize once the hop ends. I will try and contact you if I can otherwise please check back by Thursday to see if you are the winner. Day 1

Happy Birthday Fiskafriends!!!  We are a year old!

Here is a better look at it.

I must admit it! I ate the cake and ice cream but I hope you like the birthday card.

Note:
Boarder punches are not just for scrapbook pages.
Use half of a punch to give your page or card feet or fancy tops/bottoms as well.
Just a splash of color goes a long way.
Not every card has to have one fold.

Another has left for Rainbow Bridge

It is so sad that their time is so short. Ciara, our little Princess has left us tonight to take her journey. RIP my little furbaby! We will miss you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes
to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they
can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our
friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who
were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in
our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for
one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left
behindThey all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling
together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your
face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the
trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your
heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Nominated to share my projects by Teresa Godines - Day 5

I figured as my last #artChain project I would make something from paper. On facebook someone shared a beautiful white hummingbird that was made from paper. It was amazing and it looked so delicate, almost like it was made from some sort of tissue paper or velum. I never found the write-up so I don't know what it was made of other than 'paper'. I looked around and although I never found how to make the white one I did find a realistic colored one out of paper by Johan Scherft. Not only did he show how to put it together, he gave the pattern for it. So I figured I'd give it a try and here is what I learned.

People make things look so easy when they do them on YouTube but they are not!

When Johan suggested starting with the bigger hummingbird instead of the life-size one, I should have listened. (He gives two sizes, one slightly larger than life-size).

When Johan said what weight paper to use, I should have waited until I could get out and get some.

When Johan said use a 'good' glue, I thought I was but obviously I should have 'tested' the glue with the paper I was using that I had printed something on to check for 'smears' first.

When Johan said to be sure to get the beak at the correct angle, I shouldn't have fallen asleep but kept checking to be sure the beak didn't move while the glue was setting/drying.

But...I won't let it get me down. The pieces are so tiny, I had to use tweezers and a sewing needle to glue the piece. I still didn't get them perfect but for a first try, it was good. I used 65 lb paper and it isn't right, I believe he uses 85. When I tried gluing the pieces, where the glue got on the 'printed' side, it either made the paper peal from me touching it so the print was gone and the smooth paper is now rough or it just pulled the color off. So I ended up painting my hummingbird with H2Os so I could capture some of that shimmer real hummingbirds have. I also used Copics for detail (under the H2Os) and I used Liquid Glass for the eyes. (I really love the way the eyes came out.)

FYI. It took me 12 hours to do this one bird.

I hope you enjoy my final project.

Nominated to share my projects by Teresa Godines - Day 4

Living in New England this winter hasn't been fun with the extreme cold and snow every couple of days. So what is a person to do when they are snowed in? Sew of course. But what to make?

Hmmm...I see someone else who doesn't like the cold and snow either.

Now what self respecting dog don't want some nice warm jammies?

No! The other dogs are not laughing at you...
